I thought I’d just share little about what I bought the other day, from Amazon, when I had a little spree.
As you know I’ve signed up for a correspondence course in Graphic Design, so I’m being dorky and doing some advance research.
I bought the following books:
The Best of Business Card Design Vol 7
The Best of Brochure Design Vol 9
It wasn’t as splurgy as it may sound, the top two books I’ve listed are the next to newest versions, and their prices were therefore greatly reduced. Nearly half that of their latest editions. I figure they’re an investment in the expansion of my photography business anyway, if I’m going to be offering a one stop destination for photographic and graphic design requirements.
Years ago, I had a little business that sold horse riding equipment online, and I remember sitting with a graphic designer to brainstorm a logo for me. The first thing she made me do (it was FUN!) was go through a ton of awesome graphic design books, and point out the designs I liked by sticking post-its so that they stuck out of the book for her to refer to later, as she worked on the design. She then went through each design with me, to find out what it was about the design that I liked, the look, feel, colours, font etc. The result was a logo that she created for me, that was perfect immediately, she did not have to revise it, even once.
That experience always sticks out in my mind, as a good one. I’m sure it’s a pain in the ass for any designer to go back and forth with constant revisions, especially if there are two or more people involved in the selection of the design. So I bought those books with the idea to provide not only myself with inspiration, but to be able to show clients, and have them complete the same exercise for me.
The other thing I bought was a Western Digital Passport (external hard drive). Hubby actually bought me one here, for my birthday, but I returned it (SO expensive compared to Amazon) got a refund, and used the money to buy it online with Amazon, and my 3 books. I iz suchz a smartee!
One of the reasons I liked this particular external hard drive, is that it doesn’t need an external power source, as in, it’s powered through the USB port of my computer, and is small enough to fit in my pocket! If you shop for them on Amazon, please note that the different colors are different prices. I picked sunshine yellow, because honestly I don’t give a rats backside what color it was, and at the time the sunshine yellow was a good $10 cheaper than the others. I notice that at the moment it’s a scoche more expensive, which must mean that the color based pricing is either, random, or supply/demand regulated.
Man, I can’t wait for it to get here!!
Anyway, that’s me for now. Back to work, on that clients website, and my photography business promotional ideas. What do you guys think of a magnetized photo frame (for your fridge) that has a cute design on it, and my contact details?

How proud am I of ME right now. I spent 40mins (actually 48 to be precise) on my Wii Fit this morning. That’s the 4th day in a row that I’ve put in a minimum of 30 mins exercise. It’s not all games, I promise, I’m doing mostly aerobic stuff, and muscle workouts, but I do take breaks and play some of the cool fun games.
Believe it or not, I can really feel a difference already to my abs, quads and arms. Who would have thought that exercise could be fun again. I actually love weighing myself in the morning, with the fitness test, to watch my little line go down just a scoche more! I was wondering when Nintendo would bring out an updated version, with new exercises but OMG LOOK WHAT I FOUND AT AMAZON!!! How cool is that!!? I have GOT to get my hands on that ASAP!
Speaking of taking it to the next level. I’ve had some small succes with GI Lean products, have any of you out there tried them before? I’m currently reading about Apidexin, has anyone heard of it? I’m never sure when it comes to diet pills, with my wacky thyroid to consider.
Anyway, I’m just feeling really good today, with the last 4 days hard work. I don’t even feel like I need a break this weekend either, I can’t actually wait to start all over tomorrow.
Yay!

When asked what I want for Christmas, I usually respond with something sensible. Or totally unrealistic (as a joke). As in, the hubby says, “What can I get you?” on the 23rd of December, I say, “Um…some blank cd’s and dvd’s would be helpful, oh and a 24″ iMac.” Just in case he’s desperate enough while shopping in the ridiculous crowds to actually get it!
My mom always had this knack of getting us to talk about what we ‘wanted’, and then pretending that there was NO WAY that we could afford it, or it wasn’t right, or any other excuse under the sun. By Christmas eve, we’d be convinced we were getting socks and undies, and were *so* grateful for it.
Coming downstairs on Christmas morning however, we’d always be BLOWN AWAY by how incredible the huge stack of presents were. I swear I had that ability to size up each present electronically with my eyeballs (think Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2 sizing up bikers for their clothes) and just *know* that my mom had gotten me most if not all of what I had wished for.
Man, did she leave my husband with hee—yooo-uge shoes to fill in the Christmas present surpirse department. So while I know I’m just joking with him when I say “24″ iMac”, on Christmas morning, I do a totally unpremeditated electronic eyeball scan, and register, that no, sadly there is no box likely to hold a 24″ iMac. Just in case he’d won the lottery and hadn’t told me. Bah hahaha!
Of course I’m old enough to not be disappointed by this, and I know I’ll get my iMac, when I’ve earned the money, and saved it up. How much better wouldn’t it be doing this for myself? (sings theme song from Charlies Angels by Beyonce…all the mama’s brought the dollars, show your hands up at me)
Anyway, this Christmas, hubby really, really surprised me (no not with a 24″ iMac), and no, not with sexy lingerie either. But he had been as thoughtful as any guy could have been.
He’d gotten me a)what I’d asked for – the blank cd’s and dvd’s (I’d asked him for stuff that I use, that I loathe spending money on for myself because I use them constantly, making cd’s for the car, and the dvd’s I use for photography clients), then he’d gone and gotten me a Wii Game (Sim City Creator) that I’d looked at, on Amazon a couple of times, (I LOVE simulations and city building games), he got me a set of new ear phones (he’d broken my old ones) – the really funky kind that hook over your ears, that I’ve always wanted and never bought. Lastly, he got me Warcraft III for my Mac. He’d actually taken the initiative to check out the specs on my Mac and make sure that it would run. He knows how much I loved the original Warcraft years ago (still running on like Windows 95), and the subsequent Starcraft series. *He thought about what to get me*. I mean seriously, thats like a better gift, than the gifts themselves!
Subsequently, I felt, like I felt all those years before, like a child, when I’d opened all my presents, surveyed my loot, and then sat there in all that stuff with the most overwhelming excited feeling, what should I play with first!???
I told my husband as much, and I could see that he was pleased by my reactions. He even went overboard on kid duty, so that I could have like a whole 2 hours to myself, opening a can of whoop ass on the Orcs, using my new earphones, actually on BOTH ears, so that I was not sitting as usual with one ear on the kids.
It was the best Christmas we’ve had in the 9 years we’ve been together.
Oh, and what did I get him? A 1 terrabyte storage drive, and Tombraider Underworld for the Wii. Storage and cyber-eye-booty. He was happy too.
Men, so easy to please.
So what did you guys get? What did you get your men?

Well thank god it’s the first of the month and I have bandwidth again. No more drive-thru email pick ups!
It’s been a crazy few days. Skippy recovered well from his Rota-virus infection, only to come down with bronchitus in the last two days. Thankfully he’s already on the mend, and currently driving me around the twist. I’m not sure what they put in that medication, but holy cr*p it could solve this country’s power shortages with the amount of energy it generates in my 2yr old. Better yet, give it to several 2yr olds, and have them sit and cycle on stationary bikes, or hamster-wheel type things to power the African continent. Voila! The world’s energy problem (and harrassed mothers everywhere) solved!
Speaking of the African continent, and don’t worry, I don’t get political often, I’m just not smart enough for that…but honestly I want to make one thing quite clear. Right…everybody listening…?
Zimbabwe is a country.
It is a whole separate country.
It lies between Botswana (to it’s west), Mozambique to it’s East, Zambia to it’s North, and South Africa to its South. (Goes to check Google Earth, to make sure i’m not embarrassing myself further). Oh yes, and a teensy tiny piece of it touches Namibia too.
Of course you’ve all heard of Namibia, because it’s where Brangelina were holed up to give birth to Shiloh. (Rubs hands in glee at how google search engines are going to spike my stats after typing those words…)
It is not…I repeat IS NOT the same country as South Africa. The reason I want to make this quite clear?? Because everytime their dumb as sh*t president opens his yap, and some other kind of insane drivel comes out of his mouth, OUR currency takes a dive against the US dollar. Of course it could be that anytime that dumbas* SOB opens his mouth, it destablizes the whole region, but I prefer of course to blame everyone else, and say it’s because people are confused, and in all likelihood, geographically challenged.
Anyhoo, if anything about Zim has made the news lately, it’s that that very same president (who is in his 80′s) has his country in an autocratic iron grip, and having rigged an entire electoral process, and laughed in the face of international pressure, visited horrible human rights abuses on his OWN people and basically just been a dooshbag of note. I mean for crying out loud his entire country and economy is on it’s knees the people are starving and he HAS PEACOCKS TETHERED AT THE ENTRANCE TO HIS PRESIDENTIAL PALACE.
Anyway, just to keep it real, I want to explain why I’m peeved about all this. Of course things like human rights abuses get my knickers in a twist.
But I’m also very shallow.
When our currency takes a dive, it directly affects my ability to shop online. Particularly at Amazon… and that makes me a very unhappy little camper.
