Totally did something yesterday that I have not done in years.
Well, okay, months.
The smell of popcorn in my home. I-love-it! I get that fluttery excited feeling, like I’m going to the movies.
Speaking of which, I really can’t wait to see Avatar again. Seriously.
Anyway back to the popcorn…
Bet you’re wanting some right about now hey? It’s just so snacky and more-ish. I’ve heard that the benefits of a high fiber diet really are really great alongside some anti aging vitamins as a way to combat the dreaded wrinkles.
Then again, all the sleep deprivation probably reverses those benefits, but if they cancel one another out, then great!
Kind of like the logic behind the diet coke and a chocolate theory.
So it probably doesn’t help that yesterday I succumbed to a naughty habit that I picked up when working in the US…

Well, actually, I asked *him* out
I took Skippy to see his very first movie today. IN the movie theatre. That’s a first.
We kind of thought after the age of 3 would be a good time to try it out, but today’s weather was so bad, hubby was happy to watch Flipper (he was asleep and there was good sport on TV), so I booked tickets online, and we sped off to catch the start of Kung Fu Panda just 15 minutes later.
It was a little scarier than I thought it would be, plenty of ‘dark’ scenes with fighting tigers with glowing eyes and stuff, but Skippy handled it like a pro. He sat in his own seat next to me, and worked his way down a big box of popcorn, asking me for ‘coke’ every now and then (I’m so glad I had the foresight to ask for coke light – so while it was by no means a healthy drink, it at least meant he was taking in less sugar), and since I have a fear that my kids choke on a popcorn kernel (I did as an adult – ugh scary experience), I was glad he was ‘washing it down’ every now and then.
About an hour into the movie, he got a bit tired, and crawled into my lap and put his head on my shoulder, but after 15 minutes of sitting like that, he got back into his own chair again, and was soon laughing his head off. I think he’d actually just gotten a bit tired – since we were actually out over nap time anyway.
At the end of the movie, when everyone got up to leave, he leapt out of his seat, popcorn box in hand (it still had half left) and said, “Come on mommy! Let’s go!” I had to make it quite clear he had to ‘stick to mommy like glue sweetheart!’ I think every mother is terrified of being separated from her little one!
So I’m really glad we had a successful outing to the movies. What I don’t understand, is people who take their kids who are WAY too little to see the movie and who spend the entire time crying. Those people should never have taken those kids in the first place, and if they start crying hysterically because they’re scared, then they should leave.
Sure its an expensive outing, but I’d said to hubby that if Skippy shows the slightest sign of being really scared, then I would leave immediately, and sod the cost of the movie. Which incidently, two movie tickets, 1 popcorn, 1 coke and 1 box of smarties costs the same as if I’d ordered 3 recently released DVD’s off Amazon. So I may rethink the whole theatre experience in future, especially since if you buy a DVD then you can watch it a further zillion times if it’s good, which knowing kids, is likely to happen regardless.
